Directorate of Immigration: Citizenship
Is a criminal record the only supporting document I need from my home country when applying for citizenship?
In some cases, a criminal record certificate is the only supporting document you need from your home country when applying for Icelandic citizenship.
In other cases, you might need to hand in more documents from your home country, for example:
In the absence of a valid passport, a birth certificate must also be submitted.
If a marriage has been established in the home country and a citizenship application is made as a spouse, a marriage certificate must also be submitted.
If a citizenship application is made for a child, their birth certificate must also be submitted. Also, if one parent has sole custody, custody documents must be submitted.
A birth certificate must be a confirmed copy of the legally authenticated original. If the certificate is in a language other than Icelandic, English or a Nordic language, a certified translation must also be submitted. The certificate must also be submitted to the Directorate of Immigration in paper format.
