Directorate of Immigration: Citizenship
Is it okay to submit a citizenship application although it's not yet three years since I received financial assistance from a muncipality?
To meet the conditions for Icelandic citizenship, you may not have received financial assistance from a municipality in the last three years before applying.
You meet the criteria, if three years have passed at the time when the application is processed. It is not necessary that three years have passed at the time when the application was submitted.
The Directorate of Immigration still recommends that applications are not submitted until applicants believe they meet all the conditions since it is not possible to accurately estimate when an application will be processed. An application that does not meet all conditions will be rejected.
