I am a refugee and I cannot provide a birth certificate or a criminal record with a citizenship application, can I be exempted?
The Directorate of Immigration may derogate from the document requirements regarding documents from your home country or previous state of residence, if your circumstances are unusual or there are compelling reasons of fairness to do so.
For the exemption to apply, you must meet other conditions for being granted Icelandic citizenship.
