A special application form is used for a request for a parliamentary procedure of an application for Icelandic citizenship.

Applicants must give general information about themselves and their family situation and a concise reasoning must be provided for the request to Althingi for an exemption from the Icelandic Nationality Act. In addition to the reasoning, applicants are free to submit a more detailed explanation of the reasons for the request for exemption.

Applications can only be submitted on paper. They can either be sent by regular mail to the Directorate of Immigration or delivered to the drop box in the Directorate’s reception at Dalvegur 18, 201 Kópavogur. 

The fee for an application for Icelandic citizenship is 27 000 ISK. An application is not processed until payment has been received.
