District Commissioners: Family matters
What happens if an agreement is not reached in the mediation procedure?
If parents do not manage to reach an agreement, the mediator shall issue a certificate concerning it. Certificates on mediation remain valid for six months after their date of issue. If court action is brought in connection with a dispute over custody or legal authorisation, a certificate on mediation must be available.
A certificate of mediation procedure must also be available in order for the district commissioner to issue a ruling on access or per diem fines.
Further information on mediation in disputes concerning children can be found here.
