Do I have to attend the mediation with my spouse?

If you state in your application for a divorce or at a meeting with the legal representative that you do not wish to attend a joint mediation meeting, this is accepted. If your position is due to violence or fear of it, you must give notice of it.

At the same time, it is important to state that the aim of the mediation procedure is for the parties to discuss their case in secure circumstances with the assistance of a mediator.

For further information on mediation in disputes involving children, see the publication.
