Directorate of Immigration: Residence permits - Types
I am the spouse of an Icelander, am I allowed to work while my application is being processed?
If you are the spouse of an Icelander, you may work while your residence permit application is being processed. Further information on work permits can be found at the Directorate of labor website.
The marital spouses of Icelandic citizens may begin working as soon as an application for a residence permit has been submitted and paid. To be able to set up a bank account for their wages, they can apply for a system ID number at the Iceland Revenue and Customs.
The application must be signed by the applicant and employer.
The applicant must bring the application along with his/her passport/travel document to the Iceland Revenue and Customs.
Cohabiting spouses of Icelandic citizens may not begin working until a residence permit has been granted.
