If an application is approved, the applicant can expect the first payment on the first day of the next month after the approval.
Housing benefits can only be retroactive from the month HMS receives an application, even though the rent period may have starter earlier.

Example:

• You apply in January and the lease takes effect on January 1st. You will receive benefits on February 1st for the month of January.

• You apply in January and the lease takes effect on December 1st. You will receive benefits on February 1st, but only for the month of January.
