Housing & Construction Authority: Housing benefits and rental matters
What do I do if the rent amount used in the final settlement of housing benefits, is incorrect?
Rent amounts do not affect Housing benefits unless it has already been reducing the benefits amount.
Housing benefits can never exceed 75% of the monthly rent amount. Other payments which the tenant is obliged to pay by contract or law, e.g. for heat, water, electricity, house funds, maintenance, do not constitute the rent.
If the rent amount is incorrect in the final settlement and affects the calculation of housing benefits, documentation must be submitted to demonstrate the rent amount paid during the period in question.
If there is no reduction due to the rent amount, there is no reason to revise the calculations.
