Directorate of Immigration: International protection
Will I have access to an interpreter in the application process for protection?
All applicants who have applied for international protection shall be entitled to assistance from an interpreter in the handling of the case unless they decline such service. The Directorate of Immigration assesses whether to seek the assistance of an interpreter in Iceland or abroad using suitable devices, such as a telephone, computer, or other means of communication.
Among other rights that you are entitled to as an applicant for international protection are:
To obtain assistance from an appointed advocate while your case is being reviewed by the Icelandic authorities.
To acquire the assistance of an interpreter in the handling of the case unless you decline such service.
To contact representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Icelandic Red Cross, and recognised humanitarian or human rights organisations.
