International protection, rights and application procedure

To apply for international protection in Iceland you must be in Iceland, either at the country's borders or within them.

Applications must be submitted in person. It is sufficient to express the wish for protection orally.

You can apply for protection upon arrival at the police in Keflavík Airport.

If you are already in Iceland, you can apply for protection in the reception center for applicants for international protection in Egilsgata 3 in Reykjavik. It is open during daytime working hours.

If you are outside the capital area, you can apply for protection at the nearest police station.

Applications for international protection sent to Iceland from individuals abroad are not accepted for processing.
