School children Health care
School Health Care is a continuation of infant and early childhood health care and covers 10 primary schools.
The focus is on education and health promotion, along with regular monitoring of children's physical and mental health.
School nurses follow national guidelines for school health services.
Main areas of focus:
Health education and promotion
Vaccinations
Screenings
Health and well-being interviews
Oversight and monitoring of care for children with chronic illnesses within the school
Guidance for students, their families, and school staff
Vaccinations are carried out according to the guidelines of the Directorate of Health.
School nurses are members of the student welfare teams in all primary schools in Suðurnes and serve as liaisons between schools, families, and HSS.
They work in interdisciplinary teams within schools on matters concerning children with special needs who require tailored support.
If an accident or injury occurs during school hours, school staff provide first aid.
If a student needs to visit a health clinic or emergency department, parents or guardians must accompany the child.
