Home care nursing
Home nursing is available every day from 8am to 11:30pm.
The role of home nursing
the role of home nursing is to provide individualized care guided by principles of prevention, health protection, health promotion, professional expertise, and collaboration.
Care is tailored to each person's needs, with the goal of supporting individuals in regaining physical and mental function, enabling them to live at home under as normal circumstances as possible despite illness and/or reduced capacity.
Applications for home nursing must be submitted in writing by healthcare professionals, general practitioners, physicians, or nurses. It is important to specify the reason for the application, diagnosis(es), and nursing-related concerns.
Home nursing is usually temporary and provided as long as nursing care is needed.
The service is expected to end when treatment is completed or health issues have been resolved or stabilized.
Home nursing does not include constant presence, supervision, household chores, or errands.
The service is free of charge, but clients must provide and pay for necessary assistive devices and equipment according to the regulations of Sjúkratryggingar Íslands
A nurse organizes the care in collaboration with the client and their family.

Work Environment of Home Nursing
Home nursing takes place in private homes and is subject to the Act on Working Conditions, Hygiene, and Safety at Workplaces (Article 2, Act No. 46/1980).
Employers must ensure maximum safety and proper working conditions at the location where staff operate.
Smoke-Free Environment and Pets
Home nursing staff have the right to work in a smoke-free environment, and clients are asked to respect this. Pets should not be loose during visits.
Assistive Devices / Welfare Technology
Proper assistive devices must be available. Home nursing staff assess the need for such equipment.
If conditions in the home threaten the safety of the client or staff, such as due to disorder or violence, appropriate action is taken immediately. Nursing services may be postponed while seeking proper guidance and support.
Medication and Prescription Renewals:
Medication preparation and delivery is handled by pharmacies. If a client needs assistance or supervision with medication intake, pre-packaged medication from a pharmacy is required, and home nursing staff must have access to the medication cabinet in the home.
Prescription renewals are handled through the health clinic or general practitioner, as appropriate.
Home nursing may assist in exceptional cases.
Collaboration:
Home nursing collaborates with other departments within the Suðurnes Health Institution (HSS) and other healthcare institutions.
It also works closely with social home services and elder care providers in the region.
