What is the validity period of an A1 certificate?
An A1 certificate is generally valid for up to two years at a time.
The certificate confirms that an employee or a self-employed person continues to be insured in their home country while temporarily working in another EEA country.
If it is clear from the outset that the period of work abroad will be longer than two years, it is possible to request an exemption to remain insured in Iceland.
The validity period of the certificate is clearly stated on the A1 certificate (insurance declaration).
It is possible to apply for an extension when the validity period expires, provided certain conditions are met.
Please note: If the employment relationship is terminated, residence changes, or other conditions change, the A1 certificate will become invalid.
