What is a life certificate? Why do I need to submit one?
A life certificate is a certificate that confirms that individuals with residence abroad who receive a pension from TR are alive. A public authority must confirm on a designated form that you have appeared in person with proof of identity. Life certificates are used to ensure that pensions from TR are not paid to individuals with residence abroad who have passed away. Sometimes, Registers Iceland does not receive notification of death when people pass away abroad, and therefore life certificates are a necessary part of TR's monitoring.
