If an employee or employer works outside the EEA, it is possible to apply to maintain insurance coverage in Iceland despite working abroad.

Applications are submitted using the form “Stay abroad for work purposes” at www.tr.is. The person in question will then be issued a general insurance declaration instead of an A1 certificate.

The person in question is registered as insured in the insurance record of the Social Insurance Administration, despite being registered with a legal domicile abroad.
