Social Insurance Administration: Other services TR

I work in two countries - how does that work?

If an individual works in more than one EEA country, special rules apply as to which country is responsible for their social insurance.

To obtain an A1 certificate from Iceland, the individual must:

  • work at least a 25% employment ratio in Iceland,

  • and pay social security contributions and contributions to a pension fund on their income in Iceland.

The individual then applies for an A1 certificate from the Social Insurance Administration, which they submit in the other country of employment. The certificate ensures that they do not have to pay social security contributions or pension contributions in both countries.
