Staying in hospital
Preparation and admission
If you need to be admitted to the hospital or are receiving treatment in an outpatient setting, there are several things to keep in mind.
Before You Arrive
When packing, please check the following:
You need to bring:
Your own medications, medication card, and an overview of medications from your prescriptions.
Assistive devices, such as a cane, walker, or wheelchair, if you use them.
Good to bring:
Toiletries that you wish to use.
Snacks, if you get hungry, such as drinks, fruits, or crackers.
Entertainment, such as books, a mobile phone, or a laptop.
The hospital is not responsible for lost or damaged belongings of patients or visitors.
Leave money, jewelry, or other valuables at home if you can.
Upon Admission
Medications and Medication Administration
You need to inform the department staff or admissions center about:
All medications you are using, such as eye drops, insulin pens, inhalers, contraceptives, hormones, creams, or specialized medications, and provide them for storage and reassessment.
Any dietary supplements and vitamins you take.
Medications you take for temporary illnesses, such as headaches.
Doctors will determine which medications you need while you are hospitalized, and nurses will manage medication administration.
