Foreign travelers' health insurance

If you have provided medical services abroad, you may be entitled to a payment contribution.

Fill out application for co-payment in foreign medical expenses.

Generally, Iceland Health only handles reimbursement of foreign health costs, which means that all invoices must have been paid, but if bills are very high, individuals are advised to contact the International department at Iceland Health.

Accompanying documents

• original invoices from the relevant service provider (broken down)

• payment confirmation

• Iceland Health may request further documentation if necessary

Note that Iceland Health may request that individuals have data translated into English which is not refundable by Iceland Health; advice individuals to always ask for all data in English.

Medical services required from a private healthcare provider

When the necessary medical services are provided by a private healthcare provider, individuals always pay full price themselves, but can then apply for payment participation on the basis of Article 12 of Regulation No. 484/2016.
