Please note that an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or other healthcare professional with knowledge of assistive devices completes the patient's application for assistive devices.
Iceland Health contributes to the cost of buying assistive devices.
Purpose of assistive devices:
Make it easier for users to cope with the activities of daily life.
Increase self-sufficiency and security.
Are for use longer than three months.
In defined cases for training and treatment.
Technical aids
Wheelchairs, walkers, electric shuttles, standing frames, pillars, work chairs, safety buttons, communication devices, car aids and more. Note that the Social Insurance Administration, aka TR, supports car purchases.
Disposable assistive devices.
Diapers and pads, protective gloves, assistive devices for diabetes, needles, stoma appliances, urinary catheters, urinary bags, and more.
Support and therapeutic assistive devices
Orthopedic shoes, insoles, prosthetic limbs and other prosthetic devices, splints, compression stockings and compression equipment, respiratory aids, oxygen, and more.
Service and repair of assistive devices
Information about services provided for assistive devices obtained through Iceland Health.
Return of assistive devices
Assistive devices owned by Iceland Health that can be reused must be returned. More details on how to return them in the capital region and in rural areas.
