The procedure and waiting time can be divided into three parts: data collection, assessment of liability for compensation, and determination of the amount of compensation.
Data Collection: Health insurance handles the acquisition of data from healthcare providers for the application. The waiting time varies and depends on how quickly healthcare institutions respond to requests for data disclosure.
Assessment of liability: Once data collection is complete, liability must be assessed. As a rule, it can be expected that a determination of liability will be available within twelve to eighteen months from the completion of data collection.
Determination of the compensation amount: If liability for compensation is deemed to exist, the amount of compensation must be assessed. Generally, it can be expected that a decision on the compensation amount will be made within six to twelve months from the completion of the assessment of liability.
Particularly large-scale cases could take longer.
The wait for an assessment of disability is usually 12 – 18 months from the decision on liability. The evaluation cannot be performed until the patient is stable and no further improvement is expected.
New application – determination of liability for compensation: The determination of liability for compensation due to an accident report takes on average 3-5 weeks after all necessary documents have been received.
Reimbursement of medical expenses: Reimbursement of medical expenses for an approved accident claim generally takes 2-4 weeks.

Processing of foreign dental expenses is 16-24 weeks.
