Rules regarding saithe catches

Coastal fishing vessels are permitted to land saithe without that catch counting towards the maximum catch for the fishing trip. The following conditions apply to that saithe catch:

  • That the catch is kept separate from the vessel's other catch and is weighed and recorded separately.

  • That the catch is sold at a recognised auction market for seafood products and its value is paid to the VS Fund, the Fisheries Project Fund.

If this authorisation is used, the directors of the auction market where the catch is sold shall settle the value of the sold catch, less port fees and auction costs. The vessel's operator shall then receive 80% of the value of the sold catch, which is to be divided between the operator and the crew according to their agreements.
