Feedback about SAk services

The Akureyri hospital aims to provide exemplary service so that patients and relatives are content and satisfied with the service they receive. Here you can submit suggestions, comments or praise for the service. The patient's national ID number must be included in the case of a suggestion regarding patient services.

Procedure for Service Feedback

To enable Akureyri Hospital (SAk) to process your feedback, you must provide your Icelandic ID number (kennitala) and email address.

Processing of Feedback

Feedback concerning healthcare services or the conduct of healthcare professionals is forwarded to the appropriate managers, who are responsible for reviewing and handling the matter.

Supporting Documents

If you attach supporting documents or scanned files to your feedback, they must be of sufficient quality and resolution, and all information shown on the original documents must be clearly legible.

Authorization

If the person submitting the feedback is not the individual to whom the feedback relates, a signed authorization must be included. Without authorization, SAk cannot respond to the feedback.

Parents and legal guardians may submit feedback on behalf of their minor children. Under Icelandic law, young people aged 16–18 are considered independent recipients of healthcare services. Therefore, responses will be sent directly to them unless a written authorization accompanies the request.

Time Limit for Submitting Feedback

Feedback concerning healthcare services or the conduct of healthcare professionals should be submitted without undue delay. If more than four years have passed since the events in question, SAk reserves the right to decline to process the matter unless there are special circumstances that justify doing so.

Feedback Concerning a Deceased Patient

The next of kin of a deceased patient may submit feedback in the same manner.

Complaints About Medical Treatment

Complaints regarding medical treatment (including alleged errors or negligence) are handled by the Directorate of Health in accordance with the provisions of the Icelandic Act on the Directorate of Health and Public Health. Please refer to the Directorate of Health's information on submitting complaints for further details.

Questions or Comments About Invoices

If you have any questions or comments regarding an invoice, please contact the cashier's office by email at gjaldkeri@sak.is or call +354 463 0100 and ask to speak with the cashier.

Compensation Claims and Liability

Akureyri Hospital (SAk) does not accept compensation claims or determine liability for damages. Such claims must be submitted to the appropriate responsible party, such as Icelandic Health Insurance (Sjúkratryggingar Íslands), an insurance company, or, where applicable, the Office of the State Attorney (Embætti ríkislögmanns).

Property Damage

Claims relating to property damage should be submitted to the SAk Property Damage Assessment Committee. You can contact the committee by email.

The Data Protection Officer is independent in the performance of their duties and oversees that all processing of personal data related to the hospital's operations complies with Act No. 90/2018 on Data Protection and the Processing of Personal Data.
