Services
Home care is a specialized nursing and medical service intended for individuals who need specialized symptomatic treatment due to cancer or other chronic and life-threatening diseases.
Home care carries out visits in homes in Akureyri and the surrounding area, but is mostly provided through organized visits during working hours.
The service is provided as support or counseling to clients who live far away from the service via telephone or smart device in cooperation with the health institution of the relevant municipality.

A palliative care centre is operational at the Akureyri Hospital in accordance with the Health Ministry Action Plan on palliative care 2021-2025.
The role of the SAk's palliative care :
Provide support and advice to professionals inside and outside the hospital.
Disseminate knowledge to professionals.
Work on the development of general palliative care in collaboration with healthcare, home health care and nursing homes.
Support specialized palliative care services in Iceland.
Ensure quality of service with clinical guidelines, standardized procedures and performance measurements.
The palliative care centre is based at the ambulatory ward on level 1 (entrance D).
