Therapists of the psychiatric treatment centers are called in to cases of major accidents and civil protection situations according to the emergency response plan.

Trauma care is provided in Sel (entrance G) and the directors of the psychiatric department are responsible for crisis management.

Emergency services for victims of sexual abuse is

• open 24 hours a day

• for all victims of sexual violence

• free of charge for victims

The victim does not need to have made a decision to file a complaint with the police before arrival.

Objective
The purpose is to provide support, examination and advice by nurses, doctors and social workers to prevent possible mental and physical damages which can be the result of sexual violence.

The service is evaluated from time to time in consultation with the victim and the emergency department staff.

Hospital staff is under legal obligation to report cases to authorities if a victim is under the age of 18.

Social worker and psychologist
The support services provided include a social worker and a psychologist.

The role of social workers is to:

• provide psychosocial support and conversational therapy

• provide practical information

• support the person concerned in the context of an appeals process

• pursue the matter as long as necessary.
  

The role of a psychologist is to:

• assist victims with crisis processing

• to educate and advise on the common consequences of trauma

Further specialized treatment due to mental/physical reactions is assessed. Work is being done to strengthen coping strategies and support systems.

• A note for absence from work or school must be requested at the first visit to the emergency room.
