In Landspítali's specialized palliative care service, the main focus is on caring for patients with progressive illnesses, difficult, multifaceted and complex symptoms of various kinds.

Staff working in specialized services work almost exclusively with this group of patients and have acquired additional education, experience and knowledge in the field of palliative care.

Palliative Consultation Team

The Palliative Consultation Team provides specialized palliative care and offers guidance both within and outside Landspítali. More information about the Palliative Consultation Team.

HERA Home Palliative Care

Nursing and medical services for patients with chronic and incurable illnesses, provided free of charge to patients in the greater capital area. More information about HERA Home Palliative Care.

Landspítali Palliative Care Unit

The Palliative Care Unit is designed for temporary admission of patients with advanced, incurable diseases and limited life expectancy. More information about the Landspítali Palliative Care Unit.

Referrals

All healthcare professionals can request assistance from the team.

  • Within Landspítali: Requests should be submitted to the Palliative Consultation Team as a "Consultation Request" in the Saga system.

  • Outside Landspítali: A referral should be sent through Heilsugátt.

It is important to include the reason for seeking consultation in the request. The team reviews referrals within 24 hours. Further information can be found in Landspítali's quality manual.
