The collection and storage of biological samples is a key component of the services provided by diagnostic departments within healthcare institutions. At Landspítali, three biobanks are operated under strict regulations.

• Biobank of the Department of Pathology

• Biobank of Landspitali at the Department of Microbiology and Virology (LLSV)

• Biobank of Landspítali within the Division of Laboratory Medicine (LLR)

Prohibition of the use of biological samples

A donor or legal guardian may prohibit the use of biological samples taken from the individual for scientific research or storage in a biobank by submitting a request to the Directorate of Health.
