The research emphasizes large projects that take advantage of Iceland's unique position, offering exceptional opportunities for research on the epidemiology and molecular epidemiology of infections.
The research has primarily focused on:
Molecular epidemiology of antibiotic resistance
Pneumococcal infections
Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA)
Streptococcal infections
Campylobacter
Chlamydia trachomatis
The largest projects currently underway include molecular epidemiology of pneumococci, molecular epidemiology of group A and B streptococci, molecular epidemiology of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), and research on the genetics of certain infectious diseases in collaboration with Icelandic Genetics. A forward-looking study on gastrointestinal infections in Iceland. Research on the epidemiology of broad-spectrum beta-lactamase in Enterobacteriaceae.
