Equality in the labour market
The Act on Equal Treatment in the Labour Market clearly prohibits all forms of discrimination in employment, whether direct or indirect. This applies to discrimination based on race, ethnic origin, religion, belief, disability, reduced work capacity, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex characteristics or gender expression.
The aim is to ensure that as many people as possible can actively participate in the Icelandic labour market and to prevent social isolation of individuals. The Act also seeks to counteract the entrenchment of ideas that different racial groups have different inherent worth.
