Amendments to the Taxi Act effective June 1st 2026
Amendments to the Taxi Act No. 120/2022 introduce, among other things, increased requirements for taxi stations:
All taxi operators must be registered with a taxi station approved by the Icelandic Transport Authority
Taxi stations are required to record all trips electronically, including information on the start and end of the trip, the route, and payment. Data must be retained for at least 60 days
The electronic recording systems used by taxi stations must undergo an annual audit by an independent party approved by the Icelandic Transport Authority. See the announcement on the Authority’s website advertising for such auditors
Taxi stations must provide a complaints procedure. Passengers must be able to report unreasonably high fares or poor service, and taxi drivers and operators are required to inform passengers of these rights
The same requirements apply to taxi permit holders operating as their own station and to permit holders authorized to operate a taxi station
