Those wishing to act as intermediaries in taxi services must apply for a permit to operate a taxi station with the Icelandic Transport Authority (ICETRA).

Supporting documents
It is important to submit all supporting documents with an application.
Confirmation of financial standing, e.g. endorsed annual financial statement or certified tax return
If applicant has had a legal domicile registered in another country, a certificate from criminal record from the applicable country/countries has to be turned in with the application according to point 1 in Paragraph 2 of Article 7 of the Taxi Act
Individuals who are nationals of non-European Economic Area (EEA) countries shall present a residence and work permit.
ICETRA has an overview of those who have completed taxi courses and will obtain information regarding criminal records. Therefore such documents do not need be submitted.
Processing of applications
ICETRA issues a permit for five years when all conditions are met.
When a request for documents is not complete or the conditions are not met, ICETRA notifies the applicant by e-mail.
Cost
The cost of a permit is in accordance with the tariff of the Icelandic Transport Authority and is 16.480 ISK
The cost of relevant courses for taxis shall be determined by the driving school tariff
Certificates and documents that need to be obtained from other institutions shall be paid for by the applicant
