Do I need to apply for a special licence if I am going to fly a drone out of visual line of sight?
You must always keep your drone within visual line of sight (VLOS) during flight. To operate a drone beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), a special authorization from the Icelandic Transport Authority is required. All BVLOS flights require an exemption under Regulation No. 1360/2024, which incorporates EU Regulation 2019/947 on the operation of unmanned aircraft and falls under the Specific Category.
