The Icelandic Transport Authority: Licensing and certificates
Are there any restrictions on the use of small drones?
There are restrictions on the use of small drones, i.e., drones weighing less than 250 grams, but these restrictions are generally less stringent than those for larger drones. General rules for these drones include:
The remote pilot must always keep the drone within visual line of sight (VLOS).
The drone must not fly higher than 120 meters above ground level.
Flying over crowds is never allowed.
Flying in restricted areas is not permitted.
Note that if the drone is equipped with a camera, the operator must register on flydrone.is. While taking the exam and having proof of competency is not mandatory for drones under 250 grams, it is always encouraged since the test is free of charge for registered operators.
