For Grindavik: Damage and insurance
Should owners of buildings in Grindavík have to move their apartments out of the area if the civil protection authorities open up the possibility or should they decide to do so themselves?
The NTÍ Board decided at its meeting on 26 January that it would not require valuables such as housing to be evacuated from a danger zone in the near future because of the potential for further damage due to the unsafe situation in the area.
It is however correct to reassure that the NTÍ is not allowed to compensate for damages that may occur due to a lack of electricity or hot water and therefore homeowners could take some risks regarding such damage if they do not evacuate housing from the area.
