Grant type

Financing

Marketing grants to small and mid-sized companies working in research and development. The grants are in two categories, for different stages of product preparation for the market.

Market grants for companies

Grants for start-up companies or individuals. Fræ is a preparation grant for projects in planning stages; Thróunarfræ is a preliminary grant for cooperative development projects.

Seed grants for companies (Fræ/Thróunarfræ)

All submitted applications are evaluated, and grants are announced at least twice a year. 

Grant to start-up companies or entrepreneurs to support projects in the early stages. The application is submitted in two stages.

Sprout grant for companies

Application takes place in two steps, the dates refer to the first step

Culture and arts

Environment

Grants for hiring undergraduate or master's students working summer jobs in research and development.

Icelandic student innovation fund

Summer jobs for university students in research

Acquisition of new knowledge and skills that can be used to develop innovations or improvements related to products, processes, or services.

Applied research projects

For research groups with wide-ranging projects likely to lead Icelandic research to the top level internationally.

The role of the infrastructure fund is to develop research infrastructure in Iceland. The fund's goal is to strengthen domestic research by creating new research opportunities
