The grant covers student salaries at ISK 340,000 per month. Applications can be made for up to 3 months. A university, research institution, or company provides facilities and material costs.

Grant applications are evaluated with regard to their potential for industrial application and the novelty of knowledge in the relevant field.

Projects must be carried out through the student’s independent and professional work under the supervision of project supervisors. The board may give priority to projects where companies or other parties share in the costs.

Who can apply?

  • Experts within universities, research institutions, and companies who wish to hire university students for summer work in research and development.

  • University students at the undergraduate and master’s level.

  • Grants are not awarded for student final projects (theses).

How to apply

Applications are only accepted through the Rannís electronic application system.

  • Supervisors may apply without specifying a student.

  • Students must have a designated supervisor in order to apply for a grant.

  • Undergraduate and master’s students may apply for a grant regardless of the country of their university.

Grant recipients, please note – submission of final report!

Reports submitted before the deadline, September 26, 2025, at 15:00, will be considered for nomination for the President of Iceland’s Innovation Award.
