Extension of rehabilitation pension until 31 August 2025

Please note that the information on this page pertains to the disability and rehabilitation pension system that was in effect until August 31, 2025. Applicants from September 1, 2025, are assessed according to the new system, while those who had a valid assessment in the old system until at least August 31, 2025, were automatically transferred to the new system.

You can apply for an extension to the rehabilitation pension if the rehabilitation is not completed and a return to the labour market is still considered a realistic possibility.

After 3 years you need to send additional data

The maximum length of the rehabilitation pension is 60 months in total, or 5 years.

Processing time

Generally, the processing time is 6 weeks after all data have been received. If you need any data, you will receive a message about it on the My Pages TR.

Result

Once you have reached your conclusion, you will receive an e-mail and notification on My pages under My documents.

Payment structure

Rehabilitation pension is prepaid on the first day of each month to the bank account registered in My Page TR. You can also register the usage of the personal tax credit.

Payment may take up to 5 working days to arrive after an application for a rehabilitation pension has been approved.

In My pages, you can see the amounts in your payment schedule and change your income plan if needed.

If applications are approved retrospectively, credits are paid out as soon as possible.

Payments may be cancelled

  • If you do not perform rehabilitation in accordance with an approved schedule.

  • If you move domicile from Iceland.

  • After being admitted to a healthcare facility for more than one year.
