Compensation for the purchase of a car
You can apply for a refund for the purchase of a car, which is necessary to work, study, rehabilitate or attend medical services.
The applicant must be:
assessed as having a reduced mobility, based on the average walking capacity of less than 400 metres on a level surface
pensioner at TR
health insured in Iceland
You can apply for a car allowance if you or your child have a disability assessment from TR and receive:
disability pension or disability allowance,
old-age pension,
child support payments for a child with reduced mobility.
Amounts
Compensation for buying a car is 500.000 ISK.
For those who are buying a car for the first time or have not had a car in the last 10 years, the amount is 1.000.000 ISK.
Supporting data
All applications must be accompanied by:
a movement restriction certificate from a doctor (not necessary if a movement restriction assessment is valid for TR),
the number of the driving licence recorded on the application,
in individual cases TR requests assessment of the applicant's walking ability from a physiotherapist, you will receive a letter on My pages if so.
After the application has been approved, a copy of the purchase agreement or an invoice for the car purchase must be submitted, stating the purchase price of the car.
