If your child's father is not known, you can apply for temporary child support from the Social Insurance Administration (TR) while the child is being fathered.
Eligibility
You can apply for temporary child support if:
your child is unfathered,
paternity acknowledgement is started with the district commissioner or the courts.
Amount
The amount of temporary child support is 46.147 ISK per month.
Temporary child support is not taxable.
Result
Once a decision has been made, you will receive an email and a notification on My Page under My documents.
You can also see the amounts for the year in the payment schedule.
If you disagree with the decision, you can:
requested justification on TR's My pages,
sent a message to TR's client representative,
or appeal the ruling to the Welfare Appeals Committee.
Payments
Temporary child support is paid in advance on the first day of each month.
If temporary child support is approved retroactively, a credit is paid as soon as possible to the bank account registered on My Pages.
Result of paternity acknowledgement
Once the child's paternity has been confirmed and the child support decision returned to TR, payments are settled with the father and the mother receives child support.
If it has not been possible to father a child, confirmation from the district commissioner or the courts must be submitted, and then the mother may be entitled to a child's pension for an unfathered child.
