Request to the Social Insurance Administration for a child support payment

Request payment of Child Maintenance (Icelandic)

You can request that the Social Insurance Administration (TR) facilitate child support payments between parents for the maintenance of children.

First a request for a ruling on child support must be submitted. A decision from the District commissioner must be available to allow TR to pay the co-payment out.

The co-payment may be:

  • a certified contract or a ruling issued by the District Commissioner,

  • a judgment or settlement of a case,

  • a foreign co-payment agreement.

TR is the intermediary for the payment of the child support payment to the child support recipient and is obliged to pay in accordance with legal child support decisions. The child support payment is paid in advance on the first day of each month.

Foreign co-payment agreement

If a foreign child support decision is in place, it can be submitted. If it provides for a lower amount of child support than TR pays, it is possible to apply to the District Commissioner for TR to pay the difference.

If you have recently moved to Iceland, you must have a confirmation from the appropriate institution in the country of your previous residence on when the payment of child support ended there or a confirmation that no payment of child support has taken place.

Amount

The amount of the simple co-payment is 46.147 ISK per month.

If you disagree with the decision, you can:

Payment arrangements

Child support paid in advance, the first day of each month, to the bank account registered on My pages.

If payments are accepted retroactively, the credit is immediately paid out.

TR only pays single child support. Everything beyond single child support depends on an agreement between the parents. This also applies if the child support decision provides for higher payments. In such cases, parents must agree between themselves how that difference is paid.
