Reimbursement for medical care, medication and therapy
If your income is below a certain threshold and you have incurred significant expenses for medication, medical assistance, or physical, occupational, or speech therapy, you may be entitled to a partial reimbursement of the cost.
Who is entitled to reimbursement?
Individuals or families who have health insurance in Iceland,
with an income below a certain limit,
and have had high out-of-pocket costs for medicine, medical care or therapy.
Please note that dental services are not reimbursed.
Amount
The reimbursement amount is based on the applicant's out-of-pocket expenses and their income. An individual or family pays an amount corresponding to 0.7% of their income and is reimbursed for a percentage of expenses exceeding that amount. See more about the criteria and calculations for refunds.
How do I apply?
You apply using a form which can be filled out on a computer and submitted through My Pages TR,
you can also apply on paper at our service center in Hlíðasmári 11 in Kópavogur or,
pay a visit to our TR representatives at the District Commissioners' offices throughout the country and fill out an application on paper.
Supporting documents
No supporting documents need to be submitted with the application.
Application processing time
The reimbursement may take varying amounts of time as TR needs to obtain information from Iceland Health, but as a general rule, the processing time is not expected to exceed eight weeks.
