Permit for import and wholesale of fireworks

Safety requirements

If the fireworks manufacturer is outside the EEA, the importer must guarantee that they comply with safety requirements, including the CE marking.

Storage

Fireworks must be stored in adequate conditions according to the police and firefighters’ estimation with regard to safety. The premises must be protected against theft, burglaries, fires, et cetera.

The quantity of fireworks stored in the same place may be limited. Exhibition products in category 4 shall be stored separately from other fireworks.

Where there is no daytime monitoring, the storage shall be connected to a control centre.

The preservation and transport of explosives, such as powder, shall be subject to the provisions of the Regulation on explosives and the Regulation on the transport of dangerous goods.

Authorised dealers

An importer may not sell fireworks outside his own retail outlet pursuant to Article 20, except to those who are authorised for wholesale or retail sales.

Labeling

Fireworks shall have a sticker or printed instructions in Icelandic, which contain a short description of components and how to use them to minimise risk. This rule may be derogated in the case of small and low-risk fireworks, provided that they are sold several together in a labelled package.

The instructions must not compromise the visibility and legibility of the CE marking. For the content of the labelling refer to ÍST EN 15947-3:2015, Minimum requirements for labelling.

Domestic importers and are obliged to prepare general instructions on the use of fireworks, and what precautions to take in case of fireworks being found to be defective or not exploding.
