User undertaking

A user undertaking is an undertaking in Iceland that purchases services from a foreign service provider.

Responsibilities of user undertakings

A user undertaking must request written confirmation from the foreign service provider that it has fulfilled its obligation to provide information to the AOSH.

Chain liability in construction and civil engineering

A user undertaking is jointly and severally liable, on the basis of a service contract with a foreign service provider, for unpaid minimum wages and other outstanding payments due to the service provider’s employees.

Exemptions from chain liability in construction and civil engineering

A user undertaking may refuse to pay a claim for unpaid wages and/or other outstanding payments in certain circumstances.
