A firearms license must be maintained and renewed in order to possess a firearm.
The process
The buyer applies for permission to acquire a firearm for which he has a valid firearms license.
The police processes and approves the application.
The seller receives a notification in digital mailbox on Ísland.is to confirm the purchase.
When the purchase is confirmed, the firearm is transferred to a new owner.
The firearm can then be handed over to the new owner.
Registration of firearms
Firearms are registered to the owner upon purchase.
