Report a firearm loan

General

You must notify the police if he lends his firearm to someone else.

The borrower must have a loan notification on them when using a firearm.

  • Long-term loans are longer than 4 weeks and can be indefinite.

  • Short-term loans are less than 4 weeks.

Information needed

A loan notice must include:

  • name and national identification number of the owner and the borrower

  • national number of firearm

  • loan dates if less than 4 weeks

When a notification is received

When the police have confirmed the notification, the borrower will be notified on My pages Ísland.is

The firearm appears on the borrower's and owner's firearms license.

Validity period

The loan remains valid until the police is notified of the cancellation.

You can do this with the local police or by email leyfi@lrh.is

Short-term loans

Short-term loans may be made on paper. Both parties' signature is required plus 2 witnesses.

The notification must be in 2 copies:

  • The borrower must be notified when using a firearm.

  • A copy of the notification must be in the owner's firearms closet.
