Feedback to Landspítali’s Mental Health Services
Feedback is welcome, as it can help improve services. Anyone who has received services from Landspítali, as well as their relatives, may submit feedback or complaints. If feedback or complaints are submitted on behalf of another individual, written authorization from that person must be provided.
Confidentiality
To review your complaint, it may be necessary to share information from medical records with relevant healthcare professionals and managers working within the mental health services. Full confidentiality is always maintained.
Response to Feedback and Complaints
Landspítali’s Mental Health Services aims to respond to all named feedback and complaints as quickly as possible. If you consider Landspítali’s response to feedback or complaints regarding services to be inadequate, you may choose to refer the matter to the Directorate of Health or the Ministry of Health.
Available Options
1. Via the Landspítali website
Under the Contact Us section, several options are available:
Complaints regarding healthcare services – the enquiry is sent to the Administrative Office of Clinical Services and is equivalent to submitting a matter to the hospital’s senior management.
Patient Advocate – submit feedback, suggestions, or praise to the Patient Advocate, who reviews the matter and forwards it to relevant managers.
2. User Council of Mental Health Services

by calling +354 621 8422 on weekdays between 10:00 and 14:00
Members of the User Council are peers — mental health service staff with personal experience of mental illness, recovery, and the use of mental health services. One of the Council’s goals is to strengthen the user perspective within Landspítali’s mental health services and influence service development.
3. Geðhjálp
You may contact the patient organisation Geðhjálp, whose counsellors provide support and advice.

4. Formal Complaint Regarding Treatment
A formal complaint may be submitted to the Directorate of Health if there is suspicion of errors or negligence in treatment at the hospital. Further information can be found here.
