Psychological services
The Psychological Services of Landspítali reflect the role of Landspítali and provide both general and, mostly, specialized psychological services.
The service is provided at different levels of care
Whether in inpatient units, day units, or outpatient clinics throughout the hospital, and is also part of the hospital's emergency services such as the Emergency Department for Sexual Violence, the Domestic Violence Reception, and the Psychiatric Emergency Department. The Psychological Services participate in providing interdisciplinary services and emphasize good interdisciplinary cooperation.
Direct and Indirect Psychological Services
A diverse range of work is carried out in the Psychological Services of Landspítali, and the work can be divided into direct and indirect psychological services.
Direct psychological services involve direct clinical work with patients and their relatives, e.g., various types of individual and group therapy, diagnosis and problem mapping, education, and trauma support.
Indirect psychological services include, among other things, supervision, training, and education for staff and other professional groups, as well as the creation of educational material for both patients and staff.
The Psychological Services also contribute to the creation of clinical guidelines in collaboration with other professional groups.
Teaching and Research
The Psychological Services are in active cooperation with university psychology departments and serve as a setting for internships, specialized training, and research.
Landspítali psychologists participate in teaching at the psychology departments of the University of Iceland (HÍ) and Reykjavik University (HR) (both B.A. and M.A. programs) and supervise B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. students in their final psychology projects. The hospital's psychologists also teach at the University of Iceland's Faculty of Medicine, as well as providing instruction in the specialized training of psychiatrists and in the M.A. program in psychiatric nursing at Landspítali.
Development and Quality Work
The Psychological Services also emphasize cooperation with foreign specialists and institutions to ensure that the best practices, based on the latest evidence-based knowledge, are maintained within the service.
Improvement projects, development, and quality management are also undertaken within the Psychological Services.
