Predicting placental dysfunction

The study will begin in January 2027

Everyone who is pregnant with one baby and attends the 12-week ultrasound scan at Landspítali or Akureyri Hospital will be invited to take part in a research study.

The study focuses on the placenta, its role during pregnancy, and how its function can affect the health of both the mother and the baby.

The aim of the study is to find better methods for predicting impaired function of the placenta, so-called placental dysfunction.

It is hoped that the results of the study will contribute to improved treatment and monitoring during pregnancy, thereby enhancing the health and safety of both mother and child.
