The Research Fund for Women and Child Services grants for research in maternity, women's, children and family studies at Landspítali University Hospital.
The application deadline is midnight on October 1, 2025.
The goal of the fund is to support research activity by scientists conducting studies in maternity, women’s, children’s, and family health.
Employees of the Women's and Children's Services of Landspítali or their partners may apply. Not others.
The application is in accordance with guidelines and rules on allocation of grants from the Fund.
Confirmation of the Ethical Committee's authorization is attached to the application.
The main applicant is a permanent employee of the Women's and Children's Services of Landspítali.
The application will be accompanied by an updated CV and a correspondence list of the main applicant.
All the information requested is included in the application and all the data requested is included.
Important information
Only one grant is available for each project.
Applications are evaluated on the basis of scientific value, sensitivity of projects, quality of applications and experience and scientific background of the main applicants.
If the project is part of a master's or doctoral program, the instructor shall normally be the principal applicant.
No application shall be made for a grant for a project or a project component that has already been completed.
Grants are allocated in November. Grants must be applied for within 12 months, otherwise the funds will be redistributed.
Applicants who are employees of the Women's and Children's Services of Landspítali need to create their own user account in the grant management system, Researchweb.
Texts can be copied from a traditional text document and paste into the application system.
An applicant who already has a user account logs in to the system with his/her email address and password by clicking on login in the right corner of the website.
New registration
When you register a new account, the user enters information about himself or herself into the system by clicking on and there clicking on Register a new account.
When creating a user account, it is important not to select "Hide my user account..." in security settings but to select either "show my user account...".
It is important to check the admin access.
When you finish the data, click on the “Skrá” button at the bottom right corner of the page.
The system sends an automatic email confirmation that the registration has been successful with a temporary password that the user must change in his user account. This is done by:
put the cursor on the username in the right corner of the page and select User Account. Then a new window opens where you can click password at the bottom of the page to change password.
The Researchweb Research and Grants Manager system can maintain a user CV.
To register, edit and/or add to a CV, the cursor is placed on the username in the right corner and the option Edit CV is selected.
Applicants are encouraged to use the system, but CVs and lists are also accepted as an attachment.
When you click on Create a new application to the left of the page, a list of application forms that are active at any given time (open for applications) appears. You can also go to My pages to see active application forms.

Name of project
The title of the study is requested in Icelandic or English. The title must be clear and descriptive for the study.
The principal applicant shall be a permanent employee at Landspítali and responsible for the project.
In the case of a masters or doctoral thesis, the principal instructor shall normally be the principal applicant for the grant.
If the primary instructor is not a permanent employee of Landspitali, but the project co-ordinator is, then he/she shall apply as the primary applicant.
The main applicant's ID number is requested without a string.

Here, the estimated start and end of the project shall be stated as a month/year (MM/YYYY).
If a project has already begun, the date of its start shall be recorded.
The estimated end of the project is based on the achievement of the goals and defined objectives (project milestones) of the project and the publication of the results.
Here you will find a concise description of the project (not more than 2000 characters or about 250-300 words).
The project shall be described in a short manner by describing the theoretical background and objective of the study, the subject matter and methods, as well as the scientific value and sensitivity.
The Research Fund for Women and Children reserves the right to publish a project's summary.
The status of knowledge in the field of the project shall be described by reference to the sources, including the most recent (not more than 6000 characters or about 2 pages with 1.5 line spacing).
The purpose of this thesis is to provide a good overview of the state of knowledge in the field and to illustrate the lack of knowledge or lack of information that raised the research question(s) to be answered.
A clear and well-founded research question(s) must be posed.
It is not enough to refer to older applications, either in terms of theoretical background or otherwise.
References in the theoretical background of the project.
A maximum of 20 sources should be used and it is recommended to use the Vancouver format: "Gunnarsson RK, Lanke J. The predictive value of microbiological diagnostic tests if asymptomatic carriers are present. Statistics in medicine 2002:21(12):1773-85."
It should be clear whether the scientific research is likely to lead to new knowledge and then which.
Also state whether, and if so, what, measurable results will be achieved by the project.
Explain in detail:
Research material, including a reference group if available.
Methodology of the study.
Key measuring instruments to be used and if applicable, whether they have been pre-tested.
Variable lists and/or questionnaires are attached to the application, as appropriate, except for well-known and standardised lists, they shall be described by reference to the relevant sources.
The intended processing of results, including statistical methods.
Implementation plan and describe project related guards (project phases).
Clearer and more realistic timetable.
The role and work contribution of all parties in the project.
It is important that the budget is realistic and well-justified.
The table should be used to present the project’s financial plan for the upcoming funding period.
Provide a detailed breakdown of all cost components being requested, listed as separate items.
The grant will appear on the payslip, and the recipient must declare corresponding expenses in accordance with the rules of the Icelandic Directorate of Internal Revenue.

Salary costs
Salary grants are intended to cover the wages of assistants hired to help carry out the project and/or salaries of students involved in the project.
Salary estimates should be based on the research assistant pay scale, which can be found on the University of Iceland Research Fund website.
If applying for salary costs, confirmation of unpaid leave must be submitted.
Material costs
Purchases of research materials. Estimated unit price and quantity must be specified and justified, with calculations shown.
Printing of questionnaires, postal fees, and similar costs should also be included and justified with calculations.
The grant does not cover
Article publication fees (open access) or proofreading/printing of theses
Statistical support, as this service is available free of charge to researchers at Landspítali
Conference travel or any costs related to the presentation of research results
Equipment purchases typically provided by Landspítali, such as devices or computers
Please state the date of the authorisation (dd.mm.yyyy) and the number of the authorisation.
In case of projects where no authorization from the ethics committees is required, mark x in the relevant box.
Generally, if a permit is needed but if the permit has not been issued by the ethics committees, the application is rejected, except when a delay in the granting of a permit can be justified.
