Centres, application and receipt dates
The first year of residency is the initial stage of specialization in Iceland and serves as a period of experience and learning for newly graduated doctors. During this time, interns can apply the knowledge gained in their basic medical education, deepen their understanding of clinical medicine, and acquire experience valuable for independent practice, further specialization, and their future work as physicians.
Throughout the program, doctors encounter a wide range of cases, from common minor injuries to complex multiple traumas, diverse medical conditions, and specialized problems. This provides them with the opportunity to enhance their skills, expand their knowledge, refine their professional conduct, and grow and develop in their role as doctors.
